Adobe Flex applications are
contained in Flash SWF files and
in order to view them in your
browser, you need the Flash
Player 9 plugin or later.
If you can see the simple addition
calculator above, you have the
required plugin. Alternatively you
can obtain the free plugin relevant
for your browser by clicking the

Welcome to the DoveSoft Introduction to
Adobe Flex which is an application
development platform used to build Rich
Internet Applications (RIAs). Flex
applications are Web-based, but they
provide levels of interactivity and rich media
experiences that make them seem more
like computer desktop programs than
traditional Web applications.
Flex is the ideal technology to use when
you want to create complex data
visualisation, performance dashboards,
multimedia experiences, and countless
other interactive applications. RIAs have
raised the bar for Web applications, and
Flex is leading the way.
Adobe Flex applications are created using
the various pieces of the Adobe Flex
product line, which includes the following:-
■ The Flex Software Developers Kit (SDK)
■ Flex Builder
One major difference between the SDK and
Flex Builder is that the SDK is free, while
Flex Builder is available only through a
licence that you may purchase from Adobe
Systems. This link also demonstrates many
solutions from Adobe and also includes
excellent training and documentation
resources.
This DoveSoft site demonstrates some of
our Flex examples including data grids, a
vehicle expenses calculator, interactive
charts demonstration, and the accordion
text navigation component. The left pane of
this page includes an RSS feed from the
Adobe Flex Development Centre.
The site has been made with Xara Xtreme
5. Our Xtreme HTML page includes a Flex
component to create rich text HTML for use
in a placeholder, and tips on creating
favicons.
